From experience go with what you like, classic white cabinet are always in style… a charming hardwood floor and keep it trendy and stylish with kitchen accessories like hand towels, vases, glass jars with peppers in them, fun kitchen utensils…. even add color to your plain jane coffee pot… get a red one or a blue one.. instead of black or white… Changing out accessories to keep it up to date is cheaper than remodeling ever few years! You could hang fabric on the walls to change the look or use dark sheets in the same way. I have hung dark netting on the ceiling in the shape of a circus tent with the lite fixture in the middle and it looks and feels great. I took it down to wash it and added some satin and stuff too.

You have options depending upon the cost factor – and I have seen all of the listed on Ft Bragg at some point in the past year
1) Peel & Stick Wall Art – just search for it
2) Fabric Walls – use curtain rods and/or rope to suspend panels of fabric from the walls or ceiling
3) Screens – either store bought or make your own
4) Traditional Wall Art like tapestries
5) Use one wall for bookshelves and/or entertainment center.
and at least one home has (this lady is very “crafty”)
6) Long sheets of paper taped up in the kids room that has been turned into a mural
7) Plywood free standing “walls” painted and decorated in the living room,
And a foam board cloth “wall” in the master bedroom.
Or if you are going for the goth style – try the reverse and go very very white with black & red accents. Stunning if done well.

I am looking to buy a couch and love seat, and both of them must recline, I love it to have wear like iron material , not leather cause it’s hot in summer and cold in winter, I still have one teen at home. Would love any suggestions you may have, my living room is narrow but pretty long, rug is a nice medium brown, and wall are light in color.

I just purchased some new furniture. This year, and into next year, I’m sure, I’ll be purchasing accessories. I’ll need area rugs, throw pillows, lamps, and table top accessories. For the bedroom, I will need to purchase something the wall behind the bed. I had a very large wreath there, but when I changed my bedding, it was no longer suitable. I am looking for another wreath, or a piece of scroll-y wrought iron to spray paint ivory. I have several mirrors in the room and all art work is square or rectangular in shape. So I’ll need something with curves.

I am planning to redecorate my home in the next few months:
1. Livingroom & Dining Room:
I have a sofa that is golden tan with multi colored pillows. Therefore, I want to paint the walls a neutral tan/beige and used curtains with the colors of the throw pillows in them.
2. Kitchen:
I have a lot of apple design items in the kitchen. I used yellows and greens before, However, I want accent the red tone in the patterns by painting the kitchen red and beige with red and beige throw rugs.
3. Bathroom: Redecorate with golds, tans,and green.
4. Master Bedroom: Redecorate with same theme as livingroom and dining room.
5. Teen’s Room: Want to redecorate with a sporty theme (i.e. favorite football team).

As an interior decorator, when I have a client that wants to use themes in a home I always advise them to use it in moderation. You may want to put in neutral items and then just add in a few themed things such as a pillow or a model plane on a shelf, or some wings as a tieback for the curtains. The best place to find things like this is at the airport in the gift shops. You can also find some things at Ross and Marshalls. Don’t overdo it, but have fun decorating your new home.

Most online pilot shops have a section for general home decor (wall clocks, props, wall art, bar glasses, lamps, throw blankets ect). Search for “pilot store”.

make sure you have plenty of money (cause they’re gonna find things that need fixing, that you’d never expect…) make sure you can get your cabinets and fixtures on time. Make sure all your contractors do their jobs (ask for licenses). Have a backup plan…and make sure you have a place to eat while the kitchen is dismantled.
